FAQs
What is your fee?
$175 for a 50 minute session. I have a limited number of sliding scale spots for clients in need but currently those spots are filled.
Are you accepting new clients?
I currently have availability for 2 new weekly clients, one virtual and one in person. Please reach out if daytime scheduling could work for you.
What kind of people do you see?
I exclusively see individual adult clients. In my practice I treat anxiety, depression, unresolved trauma, relationship issues and loss.
I have special skill in helping people with developmental trauma - a type of chronic wounding that happens in our early life when our brains are most plastic. This might have been emotional or physical abuse but it also manifests in conditions of neglect - in other words human beings can be wounded by our core needs not being met (protection, a sense of being seen and known, emotional soothing, support for exploration, delight in our essential selves). On the surface this could manifest as persistently feeling unsafe, looping self doubt, perfectionism, intense social anxiety, feeling empty, existential confusion, difficulty with close relationships and chronic shame or guilt.
If you’d like to know more about developmental trauma and the substantial research connecting adverse childhood experiences to long terms effects on wellbeing, I’d encourage you to look up the ACE Study. Below I linked a video of Bessel van der Kolk, author of the widely popular trauma book “The Body Keeps the Score”, speaking on the topic.
I am proudly allied with the LGBTQIA+ community.
Who do you refer out?
I am not an ideal match for someone struggling with an active substance use disorder. Because I am a solo practitioner with limited availability I’m also not a good fit for someone who has serious and frequent thoughts about ending their life. I am not afraid of parts with suicidal thoughts or impulses but I want you to be supported by someone who has more flexible availability in the event of a mental health crisis.
Do you take insurance?
I do not accept insurance at this time. However, many insurances offer out of network benefits for therapy. If that’s the case for you, I am happy to provide you with a document that you can submit to your insurance, who may then reimburse you for a portion of the cost.
Why don’t you take insurance?
Insurance providers have the authority to determine the number of sessions they will cover, determine the limits of which situations warrant coverage, determine what forms of treatment are covered by their policy and require a diagnosis that stays on your permanent health record to receive coverage.
Therapists relying solely on insurance receive significantly reduced rates and must carry caseloads at least 50% larger to earn the same livable income. I see a limited number of clients to prevent burnout and ensure a high quality of care for the people I serve.
